History
Disciples Running Around Madly Acting held its first meeting on January 16, 2002  as the youth theatre team of Grace Temple Baptist Church in Denton, Texas under the direction of Laura Watson.
Within about six months of forming, the team expanded to children, college, and adults. We were a part of many Wednesday and Sunday services, as well as the occasional youth rally and retreat. In March of 2003, the team returned to being just a youth theatre team.
As the church continued through a time of transition, Laura felt lead to move D+R+A+M+A into a new, and very exciting, role. In April of 2004, we became an independent non profit ministry that is open to all age groups, denominations, and levels of experience. Open auditions were held, and new and founding members were welcomed to the team. Their debut was at Reunion Arena as part of the STAND: True Love Waits Rally on June 26, 2004. This was followed by camp, various youth rallies, and fall auditions. Opportunities to worship God through theatre have been overwhelming.
In the spring of 2005, D+R+A+M+A recieved its 501c3 non profit tax identification number from the IRS. This is an answer to prayer as we can now seek out funding from other organizations. During this time, we also took steps towards becoming a more professional team. We rent rehearsal space, have strict contracts, and only accept auditionees who are truly qualified to minister through theatre.
For the 2005-2006 school year, D+R+A+M+A's Board of Directors decided it was time to focus on financial matters. When D+R+A+M+A became an independent ministry, there was a significant amount of start up costs. Though D+R+A+M+A is now entirely self-supportive, the left over debt from the start up costs still remains. We felt it was important to be good stewards and keep every aspect of our ministry in line with God's word. For this reason, productions were suspended until D+R+A+M+A became debt free. D+R+A+M+A continued to be a resource to the local theatre ministry by way of workshops, retreats, and theatre supplies.
In May 2005, the entire debt was paid off and D+R+A+M+A moved to Sweetwater Texas under the leadership of Cody McDonell.
In December 2005, Cody resigned and Laura Watson returned as the artistic director of D+R+A+M+A. She made the decision to put the ministry on hold until she returns from the mission field in the summer of 2008. In the summer of 2008, D+R+A+M+A will hire a full staff and hold open auditions in the spring of 2009 for their summer debut.
